Which symptoms need prompt assessment
Severe or increasing pain, marked swelling, fever, discharge of pus and difficulty swallowing or breathing are warning signs. Emergency medical services are responsible for breathing difficulties. A suitable facility should also be visited promptly after an accident.
What you can do until the examination
Avoid stressing the affected side and avoid extreme heat or cold. Painkillers must be taken only according to the leaflet and with regard to medical conditions, allergies and interactions. They do not replace a diagnosis.
What you should not attempt yourself
Do not attach crowns or temporary restorations with household glue or pierce swellings. Antibiotics left over from previous treatments should not be taken without a current medical or dental prescription either.
Find the emergency service where you are staying
Use official, up-to-date emergency-service information and call beforehand if possible. Have your medication list, medical history information and existing findings ready. In Baden-Württemberg, KZV BW provides an emergency-service search.
